SISUMMA. Social Initiative of Support to Minorites through Media Activism.

The project ‘Social Initiative to Support Minorities – SISUMMA’ aims to empower young Europeans as committed citizens through an intercultural education programme and media literacy training that aims to tackle discrimination against minorities.

Through their own audiovisual creations, participants will become authentic media-activists who will disseminate positive narratives to fight for equal rights and against hate speech. These young citizens will be part of a trans-European network defending multicultural coexistence and against discrimination of minorities, defending the rights of minorities in the network.

SISUMMA is led by the Euro-Arab Foundation in a consortium involving four other organisations from Austria (Südwind), Croatia (Mala Filozofija), Estonia (Peipsi Center for Transboundary Cooperation) and Slovakia (Open Society Foundation-Slovakia).

In order to achieve the general objective of contributing to citizens’ participation in the EU policy-making process in the fields of diversity and multicultural coexistence within an inclusive Europe by stimulating the creation of practical solutions, the projects specific objectives are:

To raise young people awareness  of diversity and multicultural coexistence by promoting transnational debate among European youths from different countries and minorities, generating mutual understanding and common strategies to fight discrimination.

To empower young Europeans to be active and critical citizens through media literacy, so that they become independent agents of communication denouncing hate speech against minorities and vulnerable communities, and creating alternative narratives that stand for tolerance and intercultural dialogue.

To create a trans-European network of young people and socio-political actors defending the equal rights of minorities, such as immigrants and refugees, debating and disseminating practical solutions that ultimately provide a strong voice for the implementation of European and state policies to guarantee inclusive societies.
